When it comes to weaning everyone has an opinion; what baby should be eating, how it should be prepared, when you should start and what you should use. You can search the internet day and night but still not feel like you have an answer...but the only one you will ever need is to do whatever works for you and your baby! We started weaning Ellie at 5 months old, we know it wasn't the recommended 6 months but we felt it was the right time and we were confident with our choice.
We knew the route we wanted to go down with weaning and have followed through with it as best we can, it's clear to see that it is working as Ellie is obsessed with food! It can be hard to know what direction to go in but maybe my five weaning must-haves may help;
Highchair - We didn't really know what we wanted from a high chair, there are so many out there that it's quite daunting to know where to start. We opted for the Bop highchair from Mamas & Papas as we found it for £8 at a local baby sale. I didn't know anything about it but it's amazing, the tray and footrest comes off easily, it easy to clean and has removable legs that makes it into a smaller seat. We tend to take the legs off when we eat on the floor or are sitting outside and feeding Ellie, the options are endless.
Pouches - I know premade baby food is quite a sensitive topic but they are lifesavers when you're out and about or need to feed the baby in a rush. We love the Mamia pouches and pots from Aldi, they don't have a huge range but what they do have is amazing and so cheap. They aren't filled with any nasties and Ellie loves them, what more do you need. We tend to pick up a few when we go shopping to keep our cupboards stocked, they range from 59p so they are super affordable.
Munchkin Spoons - I picked up these spoons on a whim from Home Bargains, not really knowing what I was buying but they've been a lifesaver. They easy for Ellie to hold so she can attempt to feed herself, they come in lots of fun colours and they have a soft tip so bend when Ellie puts them into her mouth. For £1.99 for six, you really can't go wrong!
Plastic Bibs - No one quite prepares you for the mess that goes alongside weaning...the food gets everywhere! However, these bibs are amazing! They are huge so cover the majority of Ellie, they have the catch pocket that (tries) to catch any mess that falls and you can just wipe them clean so I tend to just pop them in with the dishes. They're available everywhere but I picked up these 2 for £2.50 from Primark!
The Nibbler - This is one of my favourite things we have for Ellie, it's the perfect way for her to get used to trying new foods as we can give her them whole inside of the nibbler and she can chew and suck it as much as she wants without us worrying about her choking. Ellie loves getting strawberries or orange segments in it, especially when they're frozen as they help to sooth her teeth. The Nuby one is perfect as it has a good handle for her to hold onto and it holds quite a lot in the mesh.
Every baby is different so I know your weaning must haves won't be the same as ours so I would love to know your go-to items.
